New to Wellspring?

Plan a Visit

Our congregation welcomes everyone into the experience of Jesus as the Wellspring of Life.

“Wellspring” is a name inspired by a story in the Bible about an outcast woman who encounters Jesus beside a well as she’s going about an everyday task of fetching water. Through conversation, she discovers Jesus to be more than she'd ever hoped: the person who refreshes, sustains, and nourishes the trust, hope, and love of God that are, for our spirits, what physical water is to our bodies.

What to Expect

At Wellspring, we joyfully worship in an historic pattern expressed in the Book of Common Prayer (2019).

In the first half of our gathering, we sing a mix of traditional and modern songs, pray, listen to several passages from the Bible, hear a sermon, affirm our faith, and confess our sins.

In the second half, we celebrate Holy Communion, giving thanks for God’s rescue of the world through the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus. As we share consecrated bread and wine, we receive assurance of God’s grace and promises to carry with us throughout the week.

  • Service lasts between 80 and 90 minutes.
  • Everything you need to participate is projected on-screen: scriptures, songs, prayers, and call-and-responses.
  • People dress in varied ways, some casual, some formal, all welcoming.
  • After each service, we share refreshments and conversation in the main foyer area.

First-Time Visitor

If it’s your first time with us, you don’t need to know all the responses, prayers, or rhythms ahead of time. We’re glad to help you feel at home and participate at your own pace.

  • Come as you are.
  • Arrive a few minutes early if you’d like help getting oriented.
  • Ask questions anytime. We’re happy to help.

Kids & Youth

All families are welcomed as a vital part of our church community.

  • For families with infants, we have a quiet room available so you can tend to your child’s needs while still listening to the service.
  • For younger children who like extra activities, we have a nursery and two trained nursery staff every Sunday.
  • Staff have undergone background checks and completed Ministry Safe Certification.
  • If you prefer your children to remain in church with you, we offer a weekly children’s worship bulletin with activities and puzzles.
  • Let us know how we can serve you and your family.

Next Steps / How to Connect

If you’ve visited us in person, connection cards are available in the seatbacks of the sanctuary chairs. They’re the best way to let us know of any questions you’d like addressed or prayer requests you’d like us to pray about.

If you’ve visited online, you can reach out with questions or prayer requests via email to our pastor, Nathan at rector@wellspringmodesto.com.

If you’re interested in participating in a small group, email officevolunteer@wellspringmodesto.com, and we’ll have one of our small group leaders follow up with you.

Three times a year, we hold “Neighborhood Coffee” gatherings in the homes of members. It’s a context for getting to know each other better, sharing stories and encouraging each other with scriptures or prayers that have been meaningful to us.
